The Final Cut

I can barely define the shape of this moment in time

This is a semi-whenever list of interesting articles, podcasts and videos that I come across during the week. Hope you enjoy it, have something new to think about, and share it with your friends.

This week marks almost a month since I decided to self-quarantine due to my higher risk profile. While I’ve generally had a great headspace the last 30 days, focusing on taking care of myself not only physically but mentally, felt a bit different than the previous ones. Lots and lots of meetings this week really dragged things out for me; and gave me a reminder that I need to put time blocks in my calendar every day to ensure some breathing room for sanity.

Also bought a pizza oven — figured that if I didn’t burn down the house, I may as well learn a new skill. We’ll see how that goes — the first attempt was a flaming mess. :)

Ah, VxWorks. Apparently the OS stops filtering out stale data from key flight control displays on the Boeing 787; and the fix? Completely power off the aircraft before it gets to 51 days to prevent ‘misleading data’ being shown to pilots — More

On one hand, Zoom has some pretty bad security practices and I fear that with the rush for everyone to jump on and use them, it could be opening things up in very unexpected ways. On the other, I really wish the infosec community understood that many people in classrooms and in companies don’t get to choose what tech is rolled out to them. Instead of shitting all over them, maybe help them? — More

Uh, no thank you. “A Sardinian specialty made by allowing cheese skipper flies to lay thousands of eggs in a wheel of pecorino, casu marzu is served with a host of tiny yet visible larvae alive and writhing in it. (Dead maggots are a sign that the cheese has gone bad.) When you scoop some of the creamy-mealy cheese out of the rind and make to eat it, the maggots protect themselves by coiling up like organic springs and leaping up to half a foot away from danger, all too often onto your face.”More

Closing Thoughts

And if I show you my dark side
Will you still hold me tonight?
And if I open my heart to you
And show you my weak side
What would you do?
