- I'm noticing a theme right now in my life on making things less complicated; sometimes in life, 'the best game to play is not to play at all.' On a side note, I am super fascinated with this idea of infinite games lately. The Art of Opting Out
- 'What else can I remove?' - such a powerful question. Even though I already do annual audits of things like subscriptions and applications, this should be asked more of life in general. What else can I remove?
- I've run four marathons and seen all sorts of crazy costumes (yes, it's always discouraging when somebody runs past you with the baby ), but I can't even imagine wearing a costume like this. But, there you go, someone just did that. Someone in Toronto just ran a full marathon in a Minions costume
- Those annoying pop-ups to verify that you're human in the name of security? They're being used as a method for crowdsourcing work. 🤨 Google's reCAPTCHA v2 just labor exploitation
- In a letter to her younger sister, who was having marital problems, Amelia Earhart has a thoughtful perspective on personal agency and the importance of self-assertion. I particularly liked her observation that 'human crises have a way of happening at inconvenient times'. Amelia Earhart on Sticking Up for Yourself, in a Remarkable Letter of Advice to Her Younger Sister
- The voiceover sessions from The Lion King are super fun to watch. Today I learned that the 'roar' was not actually a lion, but a human in making noises into a garbage can. The Lion King - Lion Roar, Voice-Over Session
- Peter Dinklage always impresses me. In this session of Letters Live at The Town Hall, he reads a letter from a beaver. But it's more fun to think about how similar it is to something Tyrion Lannister would propose. Peter Dinklage reads a very funny letter in defense of beavers
- I stumbled across this interesting site on how to do paperwork workflows. Many interesting tips here can help you rethink moving from a digital world to an analog one. "How To" Directory
- The subtitle on this post says it all: 'Longing for simplicity in a complex world'. I've been noticing a theme in 2024 for many things in my life around making things less complex. As my 10-year plan to get to Life 2.0 is finally here, I've been working on a longer blog post about this topic - stay tuned. When Did It All Get So Complicated?
- Remember the Ashley Madison scandal a few years back? Turns out that a more recent analysis shows that the company had 'created an army of fake women, mostly very simple chatbots called engagers, who would flirt with men to lure them into paying for a subscription to the site.' Lovely. What everyone gets wrong about the 2015 Ashley Madison scandal
- This is an excellent post on crashing through the wall when stuck writing something. How to Cure Writer's Block
- There's a lot of crazy going on in the AI space; some people are just waiting for it all to collapse, others say it will redefine how we work. Personally, I think there is some value in these tools as they can help provide some utility to augment thinking, but it is not going to replace your thinking. Blind faith is dangerous. AI Has Become a Technology of Faith
- What a great post this one was. I won't spoil much here; just read it for yourself. Fuck Looking for the Helpers. Be One.
